What talent do you naturally have that makes you successful?
I've always been a natural teacher. I like to make things clear and easy for people - so as I've deciphered the world of successful business, it's made sense to share that with other women so that they can enjoy the self-employment journey and make a really good income that way, at the same time as staying totally congruent with their values. I've always prioritized happiness and have a naturally low toleration for mere 'satisfaction' with life - which means I can authentically hold a high bar for what's possible for a woman's life.
When did you first realise that talent was going to help you and how do you use it?
My own business mentor helped me to own my expertise in business, especially the profitability aspect. I share a lot of that in my blog posts which are free to access on my website or people can sign up to receive updates to their inbox. I pass this business expertise on to my one-to-one clients and also through my 'Turn Your Passion To Profit' group programme and in the workshops I offer. Blending coaching and mentoring together really works because my clients get to choose their own path, without having to reinvent the wheel.
What emotional attachment do you have to your work?
I feel pride at my full client schedule; I know that represents I'm helping a lot of people. I love the women I work with and think very highly of them - it takes real bravery to be self-employed - and that means that when they're finding an aspect of the journey hard, I don't worry or fret, I just trust that with continued support, they'll overcome this challenge and move forward into ever more fulfilling territory. When they talk about an aspect of business they're finding hard, chances are, I'll have experienced something very similar in my earlier business days and I can empathize with them - for example, the pain of not earning the money you deserve. I also have that knowing twinkle in my eye because I know they can find a way out that stuck place and they'll soon realize how very resourceful they are.
What advice do you have for other women who'’d like to do your job?
Walk the talk - people are attracted to your authenticity and also your transparency about what you've found challenging yourself. You don't have to put yourself on a pedestal or pretend you're perfect; it's much more powerful that you've been in similar territory to your clients and you know ways out that you can share with them. And because you know the pain of these situations, don't be afraid of talking about that pain in your marketing language. Your prospective clients will feel seen and understood. Finally, know that you deserve to earn good money. Self-employed women chronically under-earn and it's time to break that so get yourself supported, with a coach/mentor and also with a supportive group of like-minded self-employed people around you.
