We've highlighted listening as a talent many times before on this blog but it's actually not a talent everyone has. It's very difficult to truly listen intently to a person for a period of time. You have to completely put aside your own intrusive thoughts and mental 'to-do' lists and so the talent of being able to do that quite easily, is definitely a talent to be proud of.
Deborah Bifulco is quite rightly proud of her talent to be able to do that and where else to use that talent every single time she works, but as a Coach, where listening to other people is the biggest part of her job!
1.What talent do you naturally have that makes you successful?
My natural talent is the ability to really listen, not just to what people are saying, but also to what they aren’t saying.
2. When did you first realise that talent was going to help you and how do you use it?
I first started to realize that I am a good listener in high school when all my girlfriends would tell me their secrets. Later in life, I realized that this is one of the things that makes me a very effective coach and trainer. I listen intently to not just the words, but the tone of voice, the pauses and hesitations, the slight changes in pace or energy. These subtle things are often my cue to ask more questions to find out what’s hiding underneath the words.
