Confidence is intangible, you can't grasp it, pick it up, see what it's made of or touch it, but you can see it. You can see it radiate from others, you know when someone is confident or not by the way they walk into a room, by their handshake, by the tone of their voice, by the clothes they wear. Or...at least...we think we can.
You see, we coach women every day. Strong, capable, focused women in senior Corporate roles and women running their own companies, with teams surrounding them and staff under them. They appear confident. They know how to walk into a room, they know how to dress, they understand what to say, when and to whom, they're not taught that, but they do learn it by watching other people, sensing what to do and how to act. Most women, pull off that confident exterior extremely well, you might be one of those women.
All too often though, behind the scenes, we hear a different story. That confident woman has a tendency to doubt her ability and put down her achievements. Sometimes, she's unsure of her next move or anxious about how to deal with a situation. It may be that someone or something has knocked her confidence...just a little. A passing comment, a glance she noticed, an atmosphere she picked up on...maybe nothing at all to do with her, her team, her performance, her business, but those subconscious signals are noticed and can, if she lets them, have an effect on her internal confidence.
The Women's Coaching Company believes that if every woman had uncrushable confidence, those signs we pick up on so easily wouldn't shake us. Wouldn't it be fabulous, if we noticed signs, atmospheres and passing comments and were able to act on them, pre-empt situations and smooth waters before they were muddied but in a way that was pro-active, focused, calm and most precious of all, didn't dent our confidence or personal performance?
